The vista sweeps over the rooftops of the old town stretching towards the Bernese Alps and beyond towards Italy. Our restaurant embodies the true essence of Italy, presenting an array of culinary marvels that are uncompromising, delightfully surprising and authentically Italian. Our Head Chef Carlo Piras flew straight from Sardinia to the NIDO. He brought with him ‘il meglio dall’Italia’ (the best from Italy) – a cuisine that brings the Sardinian sunshine to Bern even in winter. Our culinary portfolio includes timeless classics and reinterpretations of Italian cuisine ranging from ‘Polpo arrosto con funghi porcini’ to ‘Filetto di manzo Rossini’. And our ‘pizzaiolo’ (pizza chef) also creates a wonderful range of light and tasty pizzas.

These carefully selected producers share a common trait: an unwavering commitment to quality, always in perfect harmony with nature. Our focus is on Tuscany and the Chianti region, which allows us to encapsulate their vibrant essence to the fullest extent. We also celebrate Switzerland’s winemaking traditions with a fine selection of Ticino wines.

Building a culinary retreat nestled at lofty heights on the LOEB roof was not easy, but everything ran very smoothly. Here are some snapshots from the construction phase.

Irene und Lukas Uehlinger prägen seit 20 Jahren die Berner Gastronomie. Mit der Brasserie Obstberg im gleichnamigen Berner Quartier und dem legendären Entrecôte Fédérale am Bärenplatz haben die beiden aufgezeigt, was es für den langfristigen Erfolg braucht: ein durchdachtes und stimmiges Konzept, kombiniert mit gelebter Berner Gastfreundschaft. Die Erfahrung, das Engagement und das Herzblut von Irene und Lukas werden auch das NIDO zu einem Ort machen, an dem sich ganz Bern wohlfühlt und glücklich wird. 

Co-Founder Lorenz Furrer ergänzt das Team NIDO. Als Partner der PR-Agentur furrerhugi weiss er, wie man Menschen zusammenbringt und vernetzt. Er hat eine hohe Affinität zu Wein und gutem Essen. So sorgt Lorenz sowohl privat wie mit dem agentureigenen Privatclub «Clé de Berne» auch schon kulinarisch für Furore. 

Gastgeber und Geschäftsführer im NIDO wird Lars Maeder. Lars kommt aus einer Gastrofamilie, er hat die Hotelfachschule Thun absolviert und sein Talent schon im Alten Tramdepot und im Klösterli Weincafe eindrücklich unter Beweis gestellt.
